Snowed-In Cabin Or Sunny Beach?

I love reading on the beach.

With two boys under 5, I don’t get many opportunities when we go on vacation, but reading in a lounge chair, under and umbrella, sipping on a nice beverage—that’s probably my favorite reading destination.

But with the snow and ice we’ve had here lately, I may have to reconsider. Although we don’t live in a cabin, reading next to a window and watching snow fall to the ground is a pretty amazing experience.

What do you think?

If you could pick your perfect reading destination, where would it be—a snowed-in cabin, a lounge chair on the beach, a cabin in the woods next to a stream, or somewhere else?

  1. I go beach all the way but also enjoy reading a lot on rainy days. Nothing better than a good hot cup of tea or coffee, a comfy chair and my “blankie” on a stormy day. Read a bit, nap a bit – ahhh!

  2. Any place is perfect for reading, as long as the minions are occupied! Last vacation was Nantasket Beach outside of Boston. This year will be Michigan’s UP. Either way I take a stack of books to keep me happy!

  3. I wouldn’t dare read at the beach with two young kids – they are so easy to lose, as is the plot! Your snowflake curtains sounds a good alternative. I like reading in bed. Definitely don’t want a hot drink or even alcohol when i read as they seem like distraction, and of course run out too soon. Nicola

  4. I don’t like reading at the beach. I like watching the kids play in the sand better. I also like walking along the water a lot. Since I don’t get snow ever I’d say a snowed in cabin would be a great place to read. From experience, one of my favorite places to read is in a comfy chair outdoors like in the woods when we’ve gone camping. A good shady tree, a nice breeze, and a great book in your hands is hard to beat.

  6. I love to read on the beach, but like you I got a chance to do a little snowed in reading last week. I think I could be converted to a cabin in the woods!

Snowed-in cabin all the way. Roaring fire, dogs sleeping peacefully, hot drink in hand and cold snow drifting down…. sign me up.

I live in India and we don’t get much snow here. I’ve never been in a place with snow before, actually. I think I would enjoy being in a snowed-in cabin though, for more heavy/serious reading. If I was at the beach, I would prefer reading a light-hearted humorous or romantic book while drinking a cocktail or five. Don’t you think? 🙂

  9. A snowed-in cabin with a roaring fire. And the kids are fast asleep for a really long time.

I have a hard time focusing on reading at the beach. I’d choose a snowed-in cabin or a quiet cabin in the rain with a fire in the fireplace and a cat snuggled up next to me.

  12. The beach for sure! My back up would be in a quiet house, no kids, in a window seat while raining!

  16. Definitely laying on the sand on the beach. Other than that, sitting next to a window and reading while it rains is very cozy.

  18. Reading in a cabin in the mountains, overlooking a lake or river in the spring, as night is falling and a sunset illuminates the sky with its brilliancy, is my version of perfection. I can’t stand sweating unless I’m exercising, so the beach is out. And although I love winter, and read a good amount during this time, my first option is a cabin in the mountains. Can somebody make this happen please? 🙂

  21. All of the above. On a train, in the grocery line. Ahh but then there’s my hammock under the tall maple trees.
