The 9 Best Lord of the Rings Memes

This is the most BuzzFeed-ish post I’ve ever done, maybe even more so than the one about dogs reading, so I want to apologize in advance for this.

But I can’t help myself. If ever a movie was designed for the meme, it’s The Lord of the Rings. And let’s be honest–there are quite a few pretty funny LOTR memes out there.

So for today’s post, I thought I’d pick 9 of my favorite LOTR memes and share them with you. Here we go!

This is a valid point. Plot hole!

This will mess you up.

This will mess you up even more.

Seriously, Mt. Doom?

Ermagerd! It’s ur merm urn turp of urnother merm!

Hipster Hobbits.

This one made me laugh out loud the first time I saw it.

He makes all the girls swoon.

And, of course, a Chuck Norris meme. No post is complete without one.

Seriously, about 60% of the internet is Lord of the Rings memes, so I’m sure you’ve seen some better ones, but those are a few of my favorites.

Feel free to share some of your own. Ermagerd!

Mount Doom is its name in Westron, the common speech of the lands associated with the trilogy at the time of the trilogy, which is represented in English, which therefor means that the names are fairly mundane to English speakers. Its proper name in Sindarin is Orodruin and its literal translation in Sindarin is Amon Amarth. Just because the movies were made for people with the attention span of a carrot (you) and you’re unable to read a book doesn’t mean that Tolkien didn’t appropriately name things. He gives 3-5 names for basically every single mountain, river, person, etc., for literally hundreds and hundreds of things. And for the record, he invented around two dozen languages associated with his Legendarium, not one.

The Chuck Norris one is good. Don’t know if you’ve tried this, but go to Google maps and choose walking directions. Put the starting point as ‘The Shire’ and the destination as ‘Mordor.’ This should make you laugh.

LOTR memes introduced by a Sharpe’s meme?! Where have you been all my life?

And yeah, that whole eagles option would have been amazing AT THE BEGINNING.

  4. I have a Gandalf action figure in my cubical. One day while posing him, his leg twisted off. “Oh, no!” I said. “Gandalf’s leg came off.” Without missing a beat, my coworker in another cubical said, “Now he’s leg-o-less.” Everyone in earshot busted out laughing.

To be fair, Mt Doom is really called Orodruin. Mt Doom is just its common name.

Also, re the eagles, the mission hinged on secrecy and hiding and the eagles were returning a favour – they weren’t pack animals or pets.

Agreed; it bothers me when people consider it a plot hole. It’s not a plot hole. The fact that it didn’t come up in the Council of Elrond shows that there was just no way they would even *consider* it an option!

      • Fair enough. “Plot hole” might be overstating it. I’m sure Tolkien knew what he was doing.

  8. The eagles meme bothers me. Haha! Sigh. People asking why (or complaining about the fact that) the eagles couldn’t just fly everyone to Mt. Doom bugs me. There are so many reasons why it’s not a plot hole. The eagles aren’t a frickin’ taxi service. But my comment would be as long as a blog post if I went into all the reasons here. Heh. Carry on!

How I love all of these. My favourite, however, is the, “One cannot simply walk into mordor” set by Boromir. The Chuck Norris one is a part of that set though.
