125 Hemingways Enter. Only 1 Hemingway Survives.

From the land of strange:

A couple of weeks ago, Tampa, Florida hosted the 33rd annual Sloppy Joe’s “Papa Hemingway Look-Alike Contest.” Stephen Terry, 56, who’s a software developer, won the contest and, holy smokes, he looks just like Papa.

You can see his photo over at the Tampa Bay Times.

Terry defeated 124 other Hemingway wanna-be’s, including (and this is the most random fact about all of this) Paula Deen’s husband, Michael Groover. Insert your favorite Paula Deen joke here.

Groover was actually a finalist for the Sloppy Joe’s Hemingway Look-Alike crown.

I got to say:

These are some good-looking old guys. I’ve always wanted to have a Sean Connery/Ernest Hemingway vibe when I get older, sans the alcohol addiction. Guess I’ll need a fake beard. Can’t grow one now, so I definitely won’t be able to grow a white beard in 20 years. Beard implants?

More on the Hemingway contest over at the Tampa Bay Times.

Random Question: What famous author do you look like? I might have a slight resemblance to Jack Kerouac, but that’s probably just wishful thinking.

Just a kindly correction from a lifelong Florida resident: The Hemingway look-alike competition is held annually in Key West, FL, several miles south of Tampa. And the link is to the excellent Tampa Bay Times (formerly St. Petersburg Times), a frequent winner of Pulitzer awards for journalism. But that’s o.k. Everyone thinks the Tampa Bay Rays play in Tampa.

    • Another Florida resident here, who was about to post, but then read what Lucille already has said so well. 🙂

  2. Regardless of where it is or isn’t held, that’s an epic competition.
