Give Slice Bookshelf A Whirl & Win A $50 Gift Card!

Another Friday, and another contest!

Last week, I loved giving away 5 signed copies of my friend Jon Acuff’s new book, Start.

Today, my friends at Slice Bookshelf are giving you the chance to win a $50 gift card to a bookstore of your choice (provided the gift card can be purchased online).

All you have to do is give Slice Bookshelf a whirl. So what exactly is Slice Bookshelf?

Think something along the lines of Pinterest meets Good Reads. It’s a social media site, backed by Eric Schmidt from Google, in which you build bookshelves with your favorite books (kind of like boards on Pinterest).

Other readers can follow you and see what you are currently reading, what you want to read, and what you’ve read in the past. After several months of beta, Bookshelf launched to the public yesterday.

On my profile, you can see all the books I’ve read from the Time list, the books I still plan to read from the list, plus some of my favorite nonfiction and books I want to get to when I’m finished with this project.

This site is right up my alley, and I think you guys will love it too.

Entering today’s contest to win a $50 gift card is an easy two-step process.

  1. Create a profile over at Slice Bookshelf. You can create one with your Facebook account.
  2. Link back to your profile in the comments section of this post.

That’s it.

Once you’ve entered, we’ll select one random winner from the comments and post the name of the winner on Monday. From there, Slice Bookshelf will take care of the rest and get the $50 gift card out to you.

While you’re there, you can follow my profile, but that’s just optional.

Play around with the site. Create a few bookshelves and add some books to each one. Have a little fun with it.

Thanks to Slice Bookshelf for providing the gift card…and good luck!

      • Haha nope. I genuinely did not like To Kill A Mockingbird. It might of been when I read it or how I read it but… I’m sorry? I’ll allow criticism of why I’m wrong now.

I am so happy someone created a site like this. I had an app that I could list my books in but I couldn’t list what I had read or wanted to read, just a list of books. I created an account but the site is acting glitchy. It won’t let me view your profile or anything else for that matter.

    • Weird. Can you not just link back to your profile? If not, I’ll take your word that you created an account and enter you in the drawing.

      • I am not sure why it’s not letting me do anything. I am so excited and want to start creating some lists. I guess I will have to check again later. Thank you!

I was wondering the same thing! I’ve tried a couple other bookshelf sites (LibraryThing is the only one I can remember the name of) but I *love* Goodreads.

      • I’m not on Good Reads, so I might not be qualified to answer, but it seems to me that Slice is a little more of a “quick hit” than Good Reads, which is more in depth. If you’re familiar with the image-based Pinterest format, that’s what this is more like.

  9. What an awesome site! I think I like the layout of this one slightly better than that of Goodreads actually! I have a LOT of work to do here with adding my books. Here’s my link- http://www.slice.com/bookshelf/main#myBooks

    • Hi Melissaraptor – I actually work on the Slice Bookshelf web site and thought you might like to know there are two easy ways to get all your books loaded, without having to add one-by-one.

If you hover over your profile pic in the top right corner of the site…

Click on “Import from Goodreads” and step through the process for uploading from a CSV file. (Note: we have a bug in Safari right now around this, so you should use a different browser, if possible).

      AND / OR

Click on Settings and link an email inbox you typically use to store receipts for books you’ve bought online. For example, all of the book purchases I make on Amazon are sent to my Yahoo! account, so I have linked my Yahoo! email to Slice Bookshelf. Books I bought in the past, as well as future books, all get automatically added.

Hope that helps and thank you so much for trying Slice Bookshelf!

      • OK, I created a profile and successfully added one book. When I tried to import from Goodreads (in IE, not Safari), when I reached Step 3 and tried to upload, I got the message, “We were unable to process that file. Please try again.” So, I did, several times, and it didn’t work. Can you help me?.
