And The Winners Are…
Well, at least you guys have a sense of humor.
It’s pretty clear, after reading through yesterday’s comments, that most of you think it funny to watch a 35-year-old man read a Judy Blume book about a girl coming of age. A bit uncomfortable, perhaps?
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret will be in my next five books from the Time Magazine list. I’m a man of my word. I would like to give a special thank you to several coworkers who swayed the vote on this one. You guys are super [note italics to indicate sarcastic voice] awesome. But at least I’ll get it out of the way–and at least it’s short.
On the non-awkward book front, “votes” for the second book were tied. Animal Farm, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Passage to India all received 3 votes each. A fourth vote for Animal Farm came late, this morning, after I had already written this post.
So, since I just read an Orwell book (1984), I’ll hold off on Animal Farm. I think I’ll break the tie between the other two and go with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. No, not the movie with Jack Nicholson. I’ll be reading the novel.
So to recap: My next five books will be Infinite Jest, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Deliverance, The Assistant, and, yes, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret–not necessarily in that order. I’ll post a fancy photo of all the books once I have them all in hand.
If all goes well this weekend–the NCAA Tournament is quite distracting (Go Georgia, by the way)–I expect to have my review of Mrs. Dalloway up on Monday.
